Five Favourite Local Pubs for a pint with your pooch (around Easingwold)

We are spoilt for choice in our local area when it comes to dog friendly pubs.  These are my five top tips on how to prepare your dog for a successful trip to the tavern and my five favourite local pubs for a pint with your pooch.

But first

It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway, just to be responsible – not all dogs are pub dogs AND THAT’S OK.  If your dog is stressed out by other dogs, unknown people and the like, then it is probably better just to leave them at home.  You can have a relaxing pint and they can have a snooze in their bed.  Or, if you’ve got a long, boozey lunch planned – book a dog walker to care for them in your absence…

Five top tips to set your dog up for success

  • Make it comfy for them – take a mat or something for them to sit on and take a long lasting chew or plenty of treats
  • Choose quiet times to visit, at least initially
  • Don’t stay too long – keep it short and sweet and if you can, sit somewhere you can nip out easily if needed
  • Don’t be afraid to advocate for your dog – just because you’ve taken them to the pub, it doesn’t make them public property.  If someone comes looming over your dog, trying to poke their hand in their face, there is nothing wrong in saying no and asking for their space to be respected.

Five favourite local pubs for a pint with your pooch

The Bay Tree in Stillington Village (half way between Wigginton & Easingwold)

The Bay Tree in Stillington is dog friendly in the bar and outside on their large dining terrace and beer garden.  There is a dedicated doggy watering station outside and a doggy treat jar!  The secret snug area is perfect for cosying up as the nights draw in with a pint (or a glass of red) and the staff are really welcoming and friendly too!

The Durham Ox in Crayke Village (near Easingwold)

The Durham Ox is a classic English Inn just a couple of miles from Easingwold, in the charming village of Crayke.  Dog friendly in the tap room, out on the terrace and in their very own ‘Ox Doghouse’ and Ski Lodge.  Think roaring fires, cosy blankets and well, ski lodge vibes!    There are some great dog walks around this lovely, hill top village too.

The Fauconberg in Coxwold Village (ten minutes north of Easingwold)

This traditional village inn is not far from Easingwold, in the pretty village of Coxwold.  There is always a warm welcome from the team, great food, and drinks, and it is dog friendly.  You can choose between the traditional bar, out front where you can enjoy the charm of the village or on the terrace to the rear, where you’ll find some gorgeous views.  The Fauconberg in Coxwold is one of those pubs that is just so relaxed and comfy, you just don’t want to leave.

The Highway Man in Sheriff Hutton (just North of Strensall)

Sheriff Hutton is a lovely place for a dog walk.  There are some great routes, where you can take in views of the castle, and then The Highway Man, with its large, dog friendly beer garden is the perfect place to grab some refreshments.

Miss Daisy’s Tea Rooms in Sutton on the Forest (five minutes from Wigginton)

So, Miss Daisy’s isn’t technically a pub, but they do have a booze license.  And I can say with confidence, their ‘posh’ fish finger butty goes very well with a local pale ale! Miss Daisy’s sits on the Sutton Park Estate, in Sutton on the Forest.  Their outdoor seating area is the perfect place to stop off after a dog walk around the woods and fields nearby, for tea and scones, or something stronger.
